EFFECTIVENESS:

Cronos Acand, Biologically Active Food Supplement, is a natural preparation based on cloves, origanum and grapefruit extract, useful in all cases of reduced dietary intake or increased need for useful components to improve gastrointestinal health reducing the level of Candida colonization associated with several diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and with elevated levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines.

A capsule of Cronos Acand is able to supply 350 mg of Sygizium Aromaticum, 300 mg of Origanum and 100 mg of Grapefruit extract. The particularly balanced formulation seems to play a positive role in the psycho-physical balance, with plants of proven activity and great tradition of improving the gastrointestinal health and to help in the case of Candida colonization.

The increase in the resistance to antimicrobial drugs in use has attracted the attention of the scientific community, and medicinal plants have been extensively studied as alternative agents for the prevention of infections. The Candida genus yeast can become an opportunistic pathogen causing disease in immunosuppressive hosts. Because Candida is a frequent colonizer, these effects have the potential to impact many people. Some studies have highlighted a connection between intestinal Candida and various localized symptoms, especially at the gastrointestinal level, other studies have shown that Candida can also cause a more generic symptomatology.

Among the typical symptoms of intestinal candida, we recall: slowing down of digestive processes, swelling and flatulence, belching, intestinal pain and cramps, alternation of periods characterized by constipation and periods characterized by diarrhoea, body weight loss. In addition to the aforementioned symptoms related to the digestive tract, intestinal Candida can also cause: general malaise, temperature, chills, irritability, dizziness. Furthermore, several authors have reported that intestinal Candida, in particular, when it evolves into a chronic form, can potentially promote the appearance of food intolerances and allergies.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE COMPONENTS:

Cronos Acand consists Syzigium aromaticum, Origanum vulgaris and Citrus paradisi. In this combined formula, synergy enhances the healing quotient exponentially.

The Syzigium aromaticum, commonly known as clove has since been employed locally to treat constipation. Different studies The present indicate that clove has considerable antifungal activity against clinically relevant fungi It is used in medicine for its antibacterial, antiseptic and antibiotic properties. It has also been successfully used for asthma and various allergic disorders by oral administration. Sesquiterpenes, found in clove were also investigated as potential anti-carcinogenic agents. The oil has many industrial applications and is used extensively in perfumes, soaps and as a clearing agent in histological work. In addition, the cloves are anti-mutagenic,  anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, anti-thrombotic and anti-parasitic.

Origanum vulgare is the botanical name for the spice oregano. It is commonly used to flavor food or brew tea. The essential oil of oregano also has several alternate uses. It is made up primarily of carvacrol. The leaves of the plant contain a variety of antioxidant compounds, such as rosmarinic acid. Traditionally, a leaf of Origanum vulgare is taken alongside a meal to aid digestion. One of the active components, thymol, is structurally similar to menthol, which is found in peppermint and is known to relax the soft tissue of the throat and stomach. Origanum vulgare is antibacterial, hinders bacterial replication. Extract showed strong antioxidant activity.

Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) is an important member of Citrus genus from family Rutaceae. It has been used as a folk medicine in many countries as antibacterial, anti fungal, anti- inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiviral, astringent, and preservative. It has also been used for cancer prevention, cellular regeneration, lowering cholesterol, cleansing, detoxification, heart health maintenance, rheumatoid arthritis and weight loss.

For the first time a preparation based on this combination of herbs and active ingredients in a mixture is proposed and marketed.

STUDIES:

Sygizium

Several studies have demonstrated potent antibacterial effects of clove. The inhibitory activity of clove is due to the presence of several constituents, mainly eugenol, eugenyl acetate, β-caryophyllene, 2-heptanone, acetyl-eugenol, α-humulene, methyl salicylate, iso-eugenol, methyl-eugenol, phenyl propanoides, dehydrodieugenol, trans-confireryl aldehyde, biflorin, kaempferol, rhamnetin, myricetin, gallic acid, ellagic acid and oleanolic acid. These compounds can denature proteins and react with cell membrane phospholipids, changing their permeability.

Burst and Reinders 2003, found clove oil effective against non-toxigenic strains of E. coli O157:H7. Many studies have reported antifungal activity for clove oil and eugenol against yeasts and filamentous fungi, such as several food- borne fungal species and human pathogenic fungi. Clove oil and eugenol have also been tested as antifungal agents in animal models. The phenolic components of clove, carvacrol and eugenol, are known to possess fungicidal characteristics including activity against fungi isolated from onychomycosis. The large spectrum of fungicidal activity of clove oil and eugenol was reported on Candida, Aspergillus and dermatophytes and the mechanism of action was attributed to the lesions of the cytoplasmic membrane.

Origanum

Origanum have been used for thousands of years as spice and in ethnomedicine. It has antifungal, antimicrobial, insecticidal and anti- oxidant activities. Antispasmodic, antitumoral, antifungal and analgesic activities of Origanum spp. have been reported. Dundar et al. reported that Origanum has been used as expectorant, antiparasitic, antihaelminthic and for gastrointestinal complaints in Turkish folk medicine. Silva et al. have suggested that carvacrol present in the essential oil of Origanum probably interferes in the release and/or synthesis of inflammatory mediators, such as the protanoids and thus favour the healing process for gastric ulcers. The secondary metabolites of this plant have been well studied in terms of polyphenolic compounds and essential oils. Consequently, more than one hundred nonvolatile compounds have already been identified in this plant which includes flavonoids, depsides and origanosides.

Grapefruit

The antiseptic and antibacterial properties of Citrus paradisi has been reported. Antibacterial and antifungal activity of ethanolic extract of grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macf.) seed and pulp was examined against 20 bacterial and 10 yeast strains. The Citrus paradisi was tested against pathogenic microorganisms; S. aureus, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, B. subtilis, M. luteus and Candida albicans. The extracts tested exhibited good antimicrobial activity against all the clinical isolates when compared with standard. The extract showed remarkable inhibitory action against various Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria and two fungal species. Grapefruit-seed extract has, in recent reports, been reported to be successful in combating a variety of common infectious agents.
